For 4 servings this meal was $5.24 and this was with not buying off brand items. At this price, each serving was $1.31 and that is amazing! So, if I had bought off brands then the price would have been even cheaper! And, feeding a family of 4 for less than $5 is AMAZING!
āWhatās For Dinner?ā ā Cheap Dinner Ideas!
- Easy & Cheap Chicken Alfredo. *$1 per serving is for 6 servings, but for small children there would be more servings, so the price would even be cheaper. *Plus, this is with can chicken and cooking your own chicken breasts would also lower the price too.
- Pinto Beans ā I was raised eating a lot of pinto beans, fried potatoes and cornbread. While growing up my mom made this meal EVERY week, lol. I never thought too much about it, because I loved it. But, later after I had my own family of four kids I understood, because it was a VERY inexpensive meal to make and feed a family. Plus, it was a nutritious meal, beans which are protein, potatoes a vegetable and then cornbread, so in this meal we have our protein, vegetable and a grain. As a kid growing up I just knew I had a delicious meal! LOL. I do have a recipe of this meal called Beans, Taters & Cornbread. When I wrote this recipe up for the website, this meal was $0.24 per serving and this was 2 years ago in 2020. The price might be a little higher now, but not by much, because this is a VERY CHEAP MEAL. AND, I usually cook pinto beans every week, first with fried potatoes and then the leftovers are made into burritos!
- Spaghetti and garlic bread. Spaghetti is another meal that is cheap. I like spaghetti noodles and sauce, but my kids like meatballs, LOL, so I add meat balls to my sauce. Sometimes, Iāll buy french bread and a garlic butter spread to make garlic bread. However, I have been know to take white or light bread, spread with butter, sprinkle garlic powder on it and shredded cheese, then bake in the oven. So, this can be a cheap dinner meal too. Again, leftovers can be meal prepped and frozen for Geraldās lunch, LOL.
- Dorito Casserole ā another EASY, EASY meal is a Dorito Chicken Casserole, plus itās fairly cheap. You take a bag of tortilla or dorito chips, can of chicken, can of mushroom soup, can of enchilada soup and shredded cheese. I love this meal! Because, I can assemble this casserole 20 minutes before Gerald is to arrive home from work and the meal is done and ready to eat by the time he is home.
- Chicken Mac & Cheese Casserole ā this is another cheap and easy casserole! Itās close to this recipe, except for the alfredo sauce, add a can of rotel, mushroom soup and a package of cream cheese.

Creamy chicken pot pie Q&A’s!
What is in a chicken pot pie filling? The classic recipe ingredients are made from scratch bread, fresh veggies, cooked tender chicken.
Can I make my chicken pot pie with gluten-free flour? Yes, you can make your biscuits with gluten free flour instead of an all purpose flour. Check out the gluten-free flours at your local grocery store.
Can I eat leftover chicken pot pie? Yes, just add your leftovers to an airtight container or place plastic wrap (or aluminum foil) over your dish and place into the refrigerator. Leftovers are good for up to 3 days in the refrigerator and up to 3 months in the freezer.
Do chicken pot pies need chicken broth or chicken stock? Yes and no, it depends on if you are making your creamy sauce and chicken mixture from scratch. I like to make my chicken pot pies with a can of cream of chicken soup. However, if you choose to make a creamy soup with chicken broth (or chicken stock) then you will need to add a cornstarch slurry to thicken the soup for the pot pie filling.
Is heavy cream needed in chicken pot pies? Heavy cream will give you a richer soup form, however it is not required for this savory pie.
Do I need an immersion blender for chicken pot pies? Not if you follow this simple 3 ingredient recipe.
What is in a chicken pot pie casserole? A chicken pot pie casserole is the same as chicken pot pies, except instead of baking individual pot pie servings this recipe is baked in a casserole dish or baking dish.
