You will not be able to tell that these cookies have a low mg of sodium. A lot of sodium free cookies have unsalted butter in the recipe instead of regular salted butter.
BUT, I replaced the butter for coconut oil! A couple of months ago I had to start a dairy free diet, but I wanted some cookies and my first batch was with butter.
Next time, I made these cookies with coconut oil and I could not believe the difference in the taste! These cookies are so soft in the middle, but crispy on the outside! I’ll always make these cookies with coconut oil from now on! YUMMY!

- Exchange the regular butter with an unsalted butter or coconut oil
- Replace the regular white flour with almond flour (Almond flour chocolate chip cookies)
- Exchange the brown sugar with sugar alternatives
- Exchange the regular white chocolate chips with sugar free chocolate chips that don’t have the added sugar
- For low-fat white chocolate chip cookies reduce or cut in half the amount of white chocolate chips in a recipe
- Always check out the nutritional information of your cookie ingredients, because the nutrition information will tell you how much sugar are in an ingredient.
Can the salt be left out of cookie recipe? Yes, if you are on a low-sodium diet you can leave the salt out of your cookie recipe and still have delicious recipes.
How can I reduce salt in cookies? You can either leave the salt out of the recipe completely or you can cut the salt amount in half of a regular cookie recipe.
Is baking powder reduced sodium OK for cookies? Yes, you can use a sodium free baking powder. There is one made by Ener-g brand that will work for low-sodium cookies for those individuals who are on a low sodium diet.

- Mccormick pure lemon extract or vanilla extract – I prefer the lemon extract or almond extract!
- lemon rind and lemon juice
- all-purpose flour
- baking soda
- white chocolate chips or chunks
What do I need to make lemon white chocolate chip cookies?
- large bowl
- wooden spoon
- parchment paper – if you don’t have any parchment paper, then be sure to spray your baking sheet with oil
- cookie sheet or baking sheet
- cooling rack
- cookie scoop or a tablespoon
How do I make low sodium lemon white chocolate chip cookies? Scroll down for printable recipe version
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- Add a sheet of parchment paper to a baking sheet
- Gather supplies and recipe ingredients
- Take a large bowl and add the room temperature coconut oil, the oil needs to be liquid
- Add to the same bowl: brown sugar, eggs and lemon extract, mix until smooth
- Add the dry ingredients of all-purpose flour, and baking soda, mix well. Keep mixing, because at first it feels dry, but keep mixing until it’s all blended in well.
- Fold in white chocolate chips
- Take cookie dough and roll into 1 tablespoon size dough ball or scoop up a tablespoon size with a cookie scoop and place on baking pan lined with parchment paper
- Place the little balls at least 1 inch apart and gently press down a little bit the top of the cookie so they will flatten out.
- Bake for approximately 10 minutes or until golden brown
- Then, place onto a cooling rack and allow to cool

- 1 cup of melted coconut oil
- 1 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 tsp Lemon extract
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp baking powder sodium free or 1 tsp baking soda
- 2 cups white chocolate chips or chunks
- rind of one lemon and 1 tsp lemon juice (both optional)
