Crockpot Meatball Stew

Stew is the ultimate comfort food, plus if I can cook it in a crockpot then that is even better. This recipe has a few simple ingredients. More than likely you will have most of the items in your pantry.

In this recipe, I use frozen meatballs, however you can make your own meatballs or fry up some ground beef and add it to this recipe. Just be sure to add cooked and drained ground beef if you decide to not add the frozen meatballs.

What other meats can I add to my stew?

If you choose to not add frozen meatballs then here are a few ideas:

  • cooked, drained hamburger meat
  • smoked sausage
  • cooked Italian sausage
  • cooked, drained ground turkey or ground chicken
  • beef tips or stew meat

What ingredients do I need for this crockpot meatball stew? (scroll down for the complete printable recipe card)

  • frozen meatballs – or you can make your own. Just be sure to cook them before adding to this recipe.
  • salt
  • black pepper
  • garlic powder
  • chopped onion – any kind of onion will work for this recipe, I chose a yellow onion.
  • tomato sauce
  • pizza sauce
  • beef broth
  • potatoes – any kind of potatoes will work, I chose small red potatoes. But Idaho or gold potatoes would work also.
  • frozen vegetables – canned vegetables would also work in this recipe.
  • cooked pasta – any kind of pasta will work, I chose elbow noodles.

  • crockpot
  • cutting board
  • knife
  • sauce pan to cook the pasta noodles
  • colander to drain the noodles
  • wooden spoon
  • can opener for the can of tomato sauce
  • measuring spoons for the seasonings

How do I make a crockpot meatball stew? (scroll down for printable recipe card)

  1. Dice up the potatoes and the onion.
  2. Add to the crockpot: frozen meatballs, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, chopped onion, tomato sauce, pizza sauce, beef broth, diced potatoes and frozen vegetables.
  3. Take a wooden spoon and mix well.
  4. Cook the stew on high for 4 hours or on low for 6 hours.
  5. Cook the pasta noodles and drain.
  6. 20 minutes before the stew cooking time is up add the cooked, drained pasta noodles.
  7. Stir, replace the lid and finish cooking the stew.
  8. Serve with cornbread or crackers and enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 32oz bag frozen meatballs
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 small onion
  • 8oz tomato sauce
  • 14oz pizza sauce
  • 32oz beef broth
  • 24oz bag of small red potatoes or 3 cups
  • 12oz bag frozen vegetables
  • 16oz elbow noodles

Instructions

  1. Dice up the potatoes and the onion.
  2. Add to the crockpot: frozen meatballs, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, chopped onion, tomato sauce, pizza sauce, beef broth, diced potatoes and frozen vegetables.
  3. Take a wooden spoon and mix well.
  4. Cook the stew on high for 4 hours or on low for 6 hours.
  5. Cook the pasta noodles and drain.
  6. 20 minutes before the stew cooking time is up add the cooked, drained pasta noodles.
  7. Stir, replace the lid and finish cooking the stew.
  8. Serve with cornbread or crackers and enjoy!

Can I eat leftover meatball stew?  Yes, as long as the leftovers have been refrigerated frozen.

How do I store leftover meatball stew?  Place cooled leftovers into an airtight container, place plastic wrap or aluminum foil over the baking dish and place into the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days or up to 3 months in the freezer.
